How often should I test my smoke alarms?

The Essex fire department recommends that you test your smoke alarms every month, one way to not forget is to put it in your calendar on the first of the month.

What type of detectors are available?

The most common types of detector in the home are optical and heat. Optical smoke detectors are good at detecting slower burning fires and smoke such as from electrical fires, heat detectors are used in kitchens for example to avoid false alarms from burnt toast. They detect a swift rise in temperature which could indicate fire.

At BTM, we also offer Multi-Sensor Detectors, which have multiple devices built into one alarm, including optical, heat and carbon monoxide. Designed to sense smoke, heat and/or CO, multi-sensor detectors help reduce false alarms by comparing the inputs from the multiple sensors before deciding whether the source of the input is an actual fire or one of many false alarm conditions.

This type of sensor is becoming increasingly popular in many homes and commercial buildings. For more information on multi-point sensors give us a call today on 01702 888731
